She has worked with a broad range of clients to create artworks for public spaces, in city centres, parks and schools throughout the U.K. She has designed and built pieces in ceramic, steel, timber, landscape and textiles. She is now focusing on fabric and textile work.
Many of her projects have had a strong community collaborative element. She enjoys working with people from all walks of life, encouraging their creativity and sharing in their pride when they see the finished work .
As the mother of two small children, she has particular insight into the needs of children and families within the community. With their different backgrounds, Alice and Chloe have complementary skills making Community Arts London a unique partnership.
Alice Coyle SRN, SCM and BSc (Anthropology)
Alice came from a highly creative family in Australia, sewing her own clothes, studying weaving and pottery at school and taking various courses in other crafts including upholstery and stained glass.
Her primary interest has always been working with people. After 18 years as a self-employed homebirth midwife and lecturer in London, she fulfilled an ambition to study anthropology.
When her children left home as young adults Alice moved house and turned set to work renovating it, teaching herself new skills including wiring, carpentry and soft furnishing.
To help establish networks, she joined the local community group. Alice and Chloe met at Chloe's workshops organised to make decorative banners to enhance the neighbourhood's London in Bloom entry. This led to further projects and to the creation of Community Arts London.
Alice rediscovered her artistic abilities through this community work and loves every stage of the project - meeting the people involved, helping them to gain confidence in their creative abilities and sharing their delight in the finished piece, knowing it was a truly collaborative process.
